Wilson A2000 Review [BEST REVIEW]

Wilson A2000

I call this one the Beauty Ruby

We all know of the Wilson A2000 because it is arguably the best glove in the world.

If you did not know about the Wilson A2000 prior to reading this review, you’re in luck because I’m not only about to break it down for you, but I’ll give my own personal review on it.

Most guys don’t actually review it for you guys so make sure you stick around for other reviews.

I like getting right into the review so let’s start looking at some raw specs of the Wilson A2000s.

Design/Specs

There is a couple of major things that you have to know about Wilson A2000.

Types

One thing that most people don’t know is that the Wilson A2000 has many different types of gloves for the different positions. The different types include infield, outfield, catcher, and pitcher.

The main glove that is the most popular with the A2000 series is the infielder’s glove. I do not know quite why but many people (including a lot of major leaguers) consider this the best glove for the job.

The second most popular glove that I see out of the A2000 series is the pitcher’s glove. I would think that this is similar to the infielder’s glove but it is not. The difference is the type of webbing and the length of the glove. You want it to be a little shorter for an infielders glove and longer with a pitcher’s glove.

Different Types of Webbings

There is nothing too special about the webbings of the Wilson A2000, but we’ll go over the different types of webbings that you can find on the different versions of the A2000 mitt.

The T-Web resembles the shape of a T obviously but has some functionality behind it. One is that it closes easier. We see this technology in the Rawlings Trapeze technology, which is similar to the T-Web. This type of webbing is for pitcher’s gloves.

The I-Web is more of an all-around baseball glove web. It is made for balance, and support for infielders to have the most comfort. It keeps the form of the hand and is just an overall good web for people who want a simple but efficient web design.

The H-Web is a super durable web that is made to ensure the ball is in the glove. The disadvantage of this type of webbing is that it is a little heavier than the other types of webbings. It has all of this material that keeps everything in place and adds a bit more durability. Overall this is another great web on the A2000.

Now there are other specialty webs that cover the rest of the gloves like first basemen or catchers gloves. There are some that are closed pro-laced webs, or there are some that are totally closed off like some catchers gloves. I like these because they are made specifically for these types of gloves. That means that there is the most efficient and performance out of these types of webs.

Enough about webs, let’s get to the different lengths that are available on the Wilson A2000.

Different Lengths

Since there are different positions that are given to the A2000s, there are also other lengths too. Imagine using a catchers glove to play shortstop!

Outfield Lengths

I know you’re smart, so you know that an outfield glove should be the longest on the field (with exception to first basemen).

The Wilson A2000 has outfield glove sizes ranging from 12.5″ to 13.5″. Talk about a variety!

These outfield lengths are perfect for snagging pop flys and fielding a grounder into a crow hop.

I wish I had one of these babies when I started getting serious in the outfield (I only got the infield model for Christmas one year).

Infield Lengths

Infielders want a smaller glove that they can pop the ball out of to make the throw as quick as they can. You know how infielders make those cool double plays? They have to be as quick as they possibly can.

This glove series features infield mitt lengths ranging from 11.25″ to 12.25″.

I used to have one of these infield mitts and let me tell you, it was the best glove I ever owned.

I know that it is hard to field a grounder speeding at you with such a small glove, but you have to practice with it as much as you can to find the benefits of having a smaller glove.

You’ll get the speed, confidence, and durability.

Pitcher Lengths

Pitchers need to have some length, but some versatility as well since they are the second closest player to the hitter.

The other thing that pitcher’s mitts should have is a closed web since you don’t want anyone peeking on what you’re gonna throw.

The lengths of the pitcher mitts range from 11.5″ to 12″.

Being a pitcher myself, I prefer the 11.5″ models since you can get a little quicker than the 12″ models. You want every little bit of juice that you can get.

Special Features

The Wilson A2000s are the super gloves of baseball because of all of the bells and whistles that they have integrated into them.

There is the highest quality possible in these gloves, which is why they are deemed the best in the nation (even by a lot of MLB players).

Snug Fit

This technology is actually a trademark of the Wilson A2000 series. It is really exactly as it sounds.

Infielders can benefit from the tighter fit around their hand, to make their glove a little faster.

I really like this on a glove because the glove is essentially an extension of your arm. For it to feel more like it is a part of you, it needs to be a little snugger.

Pro Stock Leather

Wilson takes pride in the leather that they use for their baseball gloves, as it is the highest quality leather around. That type of attention to detail is vital to the success of these gloves.

Having the Pro Stock Leather in the Wilson A2000s make them easy to break in, and durable for more seasons than most gloves.

That is what I love about the Wilson A2000s. They aren’t trying to cheat you out with a crap glove that’ll fall apart on you. This is a genuine glove that you can trust.

Pedroia Fit

Dustin Pedroia is one of the best infielders in the MLB, which is why he has his own popular fit of Wilson A2000s.

Essentially, the Pedroia Fit has a smaller, more snug fit. I know you’re thinking “what’s the difference between the snug fit and this one?”

The Pedroia fit not only more snug, but has longer laces, quicker break-in, and other things that Dustin Pedroia likes on his glove. Many baseball players agree with his style if he has his own line of the best glove in the world.

To learn more about the Pedroia fit, check out my review on the Wilson A2000 DP15.

Dri-Lex Wrist Lining

Yea it’s hot out, what are you gonna do about it?

You need a technology that takes the sweat off of you. There are many benefits to this like not stinking, its more comfortable, and keeps your glove on without slipping.

The wrist lining on the Wilson A2000 is great for all of those reasons. I see some gloves use some type of fake fur or something that can ruin your glove. Not with the Wilson A2000.

Dual Welting

The main thing that you have to know about the Dual Welting feature of the Wilson A2000 is that it’s awesome.

Basically, it makes the glove more durable and solid. It is always good to have a strong structure to the glove.

It also makes the durability go up and the life of the glove is longer because of this feature. This just ensures that this glove is one of the best and has a lot of attention to detail.

This is one of the features that take the Wilson A2000 to the next level in durability and feel.

One of the ways that I see the Dual Welting is if you’re building a house, you don’t want a crappy frame or else the house will fall down one day soon. If you use the best material for your frame, the house will protect you from every storm out there.

Super Skin

Some of the Wilson A2000 gloves are made of a Super Skin material, which is another awesome trademark of these gloves.

In a nutshell, Super Skin is a material that is super light, but twice as this strong. Seems like magic right?

Some of the best baseball players in the world like Robinson Cano use an A2000 with Super Skin, so there’s nothing to be afraid of. I actually prefer this material since it is just what you want on your baseball glove.

If you don’t want this superhero-like material there is no shame in going with the old-fashioned pro leather, this is just a great option.

Performance/Overall Report

I think the performance of this glove is self-explanatory. If you practice getting better at your craft, the rest is here.

The Wilson A2000 is highly customizable, which means that if you don’t like one model, there are so many others to choose from.

The main aspect of performance of the A2Ks is the durability, quickness, and sturdiness of the glove.

In other words, the Wilson A2000 is a great fit for you if you want all of the above performance in your baseball glove with high customizability.

These are high-performance gloves for the serious baseball player that is ready to work hard and get better at their craft.

You have to do what you love and love what you do and I know it’s a little corny but this glove really allows you to develop a strong connection with baseball. You can tell that the people at Wilson are passionate about baseball which is the mirrored into their gloves.

Robinson Cano using his awesome Wilson A2000

Overall the Wilson A2000 is one of the best baseball gloves out there and if you want the best of the best, I don’t know where to direct you other than a great glove like this. It has been one of the most bought gloves for such a long time and still is (even in the MLB).

I genuinely love this glove because of how great it is in so many categories.

I know it is a little pricey but sleep on the idea for a while and see if you have a passion for baseball. This glove is not just to field ground balls.

The Wilson A2000 is manufactured to evoke a feeling that brings you closer to baseball. That is the most that you can get from any glove out there.

Who Is This Glove For

If you are serious and passionate about the game of baseball, then I see no problem with you getting along with the A2000.

Virtually any player can have an A2000 since they have them for each position, including utility players and catchers.

I think that is one of the reasons why this glove is so popular: it is here for everyone.

If you are an infielder especially, I think that this is the best you can get. I know it all depends on the player but I haven’t heard anything about this glove all these years.

If you are getting bored with baseball, but you love it still, this can be your wake up call.

There are some baseball products that are made just to make money, but some are here so that you can develop a strong feeling towards baseball. That can be what you need to take your game to the next level.

When I got my A2000 when I was in high school, it came on Christmas day. As soon as I went outside to catch with it I fell in love.

I had no trouble going to practice or even practicing on my own. It was just fun to have, which is the feeling that the people at Wilson tried to bring out with these models.

Basically, if I can sum this glove up in a way other than it has everything a player wants, I would tell you that it is about something greater than baseball.

Ok, I’m done being corny, so if you want to check out this glove just click the link below and you can check out the pricing and such.

  • Hey do you think that the wilson a2000 is the best glove? Also this is a great review of the wilson a2000

    • I think that the Wilson A2000 is a very brilliant glove. If it is the best is up to you but in my opinion, I do think the Wilson a2000 is great.

  • Dude this is one of the best reviews of the A2000 I found! One question though.. Does the infield glove fit small or normal. A lot of my friends said it was small. Also if it is made to fit small, why is it like that? Thanks

    • Thanks, Johnny! The Wilson a2000 is meant to fit a little small and that's because of middle infielders. They like to get the ball out as quick as they can as you might know. Hope that answers it!
