Rawlings Heart of the Hide Baseball Glove Review

Rawlings Heart of the Hide Quick Review

The Rawlings Heart of the Hide has a lot of great features included.  First I’ll tell you some main details about the glove since some of you are in the store right now about to pay.  This is primarily used as an outfielders glove because of the web design.  The Trap-eze web design gives a great advantage to outfielders because of the easy close.  I will talk about that more later, but let’s talk about the material.  The Rawlings Heart of the Hide is made with leathers from the obvious place, “heart of the hide.”  This feature makes the glove a premium glove selection and a great choice for any outfielder.

Performance

Now moving on to the performance aspect of this glove, I rate it very well because of the great key aspects that this glove has.  One that I will talk about more is the Trap-eze web design.  So as you can see in the pictures, the web looks like a strip that is sewn into the glove.  This makes it really easy to open and close the glove, even when not broken in.  Also, it allows the player to trap in the ball, as the name suggests.  Awesome design by Rawlings on this one.

Next, on the performance, I’ll talk a little more about how it feels.  So this Mitt is not one to be all loosey-goosey on you.  The glove is meant to have a firm feel to it and a lot of support.  From having a lot of experience in the outfield, it is nice to have some support and firmness as you will be reaching over your head, and to the sides.  From this stiffness, you also have a lot of sting protection.  Sometimes when you’re running for a ball you don’t catch it in the sweet spot of the glove.  This causes that string that you feel for the next few innings and it’s worse when it’s cold outside.  More sting protection will save your hands and keep you from crying like a baby.

Design

So you know about some of the design of the glove, but not all of it, so let’s talk specs.  The Rawlings Heart of the Hide is 12.75 inches, which gives a mix of versatility and reach.  There is some extra support as this glove sports a deer-tanned cowhide palm and finger linings for some durability and rigidness. Like most outfield gloves, this one has a single hole in the back for your index finger. I don’t really use these but it’s nice to have some extra control and support.

The inside of the mitt has a wool blend, for extra blanket softness.  The only downside of this is that sometimes you gotta spray it with some Lysol because of the smell.  Not the glove smell, but the smell you leave in the glove, so make sure you keep it clean and I recommend using a batting glove to prevent this.
