High-cut and Low-cut Cleats

When you decide to buy a new pair of baseball cleats, you will most likely be faced with the two other types. These are low-cut baseball cleats and high-cut cleats. As far as performance enhancement goes, the two types tend to offer the same level of performance. The differences come in really as a matter of personal preferences. Some players like more ankle support than others.  Movement, however, is affected and so the player’s position on the field needs to be considered as well.

One advantage of low cut baseball cleats is that they allow for better movement since the ankles are not restricted.  They are also lighter in weight than their high-cut counterparts allowing the player to make better sprints and turning angles. The downside of these cleats is that when in the field there is a higher chance of the player rolling his ankles.

High-cut baseball cleats are heavier than low-cut cleats. This is due to the fact that they are made from more material. If you are looking for better ankle support and protection, these cleats are your best bet.  Being heavier, they are not as good for sprints and sharp turns. For players who do not require sharp movements and turning, it is normally not a big deal.
