Louisville Slugger Youth 125 Baseball Bat Review

Louisville Slugger Youth 125

Back to the basics again with the Louisville Slugger Youth 125.  Another awesome wood baseball bat that can suit your need while not breaking the bank.  That is what I love about wood bats in general: they can hit a baseball well and not cost you an arm and a leg.  That’s one of the main things I look at when buying a bat for myself.

Louisville Slugger has been around for a long time, making baseball bats for every baseball player.  My first wood baseball bat was a Louisville Slugger and I remember it was inexpensive but performed like a dream.  I don’t know why but there is something about hitting with wood.  Sometimes I would hit with wood when I’m in a rut or feel like having a little more fun.

Design

First off, this bat is made of genuine maple wood, which is a popular choice for wood baseball bats.  It has a hard but soft feel to it that gives such a satisfying hit sound and feel.  There is a reason why maple wood is one of the most used woods in baseball bats.

The Louisville Slugger Youth 125 also has a split finished design.  What this means, is that half the bat is finished, and half is not.  Finished is just the term for when the bat has resin or varnish.  The part that isn’t finished is the handle which I like.  This gives you the creativity to do whatever you want to the handle. Some of the possibilities are a new lizard skin bat tape, or just use good ol’ pine tar.

The handle and barrel on this bat are both medium sized. That is what people like about the Louisville Slugger Genuine Series. Since the top isn’t a big barrel, there is a better weight distribution. The center of gravity is closer to the middle of the bat, making it much easier to swing. You definitely want a bat like this for a youth player.

Performance

There is nothing special about this bat, but nothing bad about it either.  That is exactly what I like about the Louisville Slugger 125.  It has the original charm to it that can really make you feel a little more confident at the plate.

Because this bat is made out of maple wood, there is a good amount of pop to it.  Nothing out of the ordinary but gives you what you need to hit a baseball.  Even the tiny guys can use this bat to lift some into the outfield.  That is the power of maple and Louisville Slugger combined.

I know people that use wood bats just to practice since you can really tell if it is on the sweet spot.  I think that with this bat you can definitely do that since it has such a low price.

One of the things that I did notice when I was taking some cuts with this bat was that there was some negative feedback. That is pretty common with wood bats since the material just allows for vibrations to take over, but it wasn’t that bad. Also since this is a youth bat and I don’t use bats that small, it might’ve been the way I was hitting the ball.

Conclusion

Overall, I think that if you are looking for a baseball bat to have fun with or practice with, the Louisville Slugger 125 is a good choice for you.  With an awesome price and some good specs, I say go for it.

Make sure that you take care of this bat or any wooden bat.  They can get ruined easier if they are left in the rain or left in the cold car. You DO NOT want your bat to get waterlogged after leaving it in the rain or snapping from being too cold.  You really do need to take care of wood bats more than metal bats.

Especially since this bat is only half finished and half unfinished, there is bare wood exposed, making it easier to absorb water.
