DeMarini 2014 Corndog Wood Baseball Bat Review

DeMarini 2014 Corndog

Hey, guys let’s talk about the DeMarini 2014 Corndog wood baseball bat. Let me tell you that this baseball bat is not like any other wood bat. In this bat, DeMarini Uses wood and aluminum. This is something that you don’t usually see in a regular wood back. I’m pretty sure if Babe Ruth saw this technology he would be pretty excited. I like it because you got the best of both worlds.

Demarini has been one of the best bat manufacturers for the longest time, so they know what they are doing with the corndog. I think that it is a pretty impressive design and I think you do too. You don’t see a lot of these baseball bats that are both wood and composite. And yes, you are allowed to use this bat in an all-wood league.

Design

Ok, let’s talk about this crazy design that the mad scientists at Demarini thought up. The type of wood in the DeMarini 2014 Corndog is Maple, which is one of my favorites. Since maple wood is a little softer, it feels a lot more satisfying when you hit a ball on the sweet spot. Also with Maple wood, it does not give as much negative feedback as other woods as bamboo does.

I know that on a lot of wooden bats this is a problem because the way wood is composed it brings a lot of sting to the player. When I played with wood bats when I was younger, I thought it was nearly impossible to hit an inside ball because I was afraid of the sting. Since this bat is not 100% wood, it does not bring as much sting as you think it would.

Speaking of not all wood, let’s talk about how this bat has some metal. The whole barrel is wood, but the handle is aluminum. I really like this because of the durability that this adds. Its almost like cheating (not really) since it is half wood half metal. The purpose of this is to give a solid handle to the bat that doesn’t break on weird hits off of the bat. How many times did you see a bat go flying into the stands in the major leagues? Hopefully, this design minimizes this and brings a little power to it too.

If you did not pick up on it as I did in the beginning, it is called the corndog because the outside is wood and the inside is metal. Don’t worry; it is BBCOR certified too, so you don’t have to sweat this one.

Performance

With the DeMarini 2014 Corndog being both wood and metal, how will this bat perform in a game?

The answer is that it will give the batter a chance to perform well. Since this bat is so durable and stable, the pop on this thing is fantastic. Usually, you don’t have a lot of pop on wood bats because the wood is not that dense, so the energy of the ball is dispersed and goes away. Since the metal is now there, it brings some sturdiness and ruggedness. Trust me when I say this, it feels so nice.

So yes, the DeMarini 2014 Corndog wood baseball bat is like more of a hybrid but is still considered a wood bat that you can use in all-wood leagues or just in the game. The most iconic bat in baseball is a wood baseball bat, but with this one Demarini combined the two most popular materials and made an impressive hitting tool. No, they were not the first ones to do this, but it came out nice.
