Bat Weight Distribution

When it comes to determining the best bat size, it all comes down to the individuals preferences. Once they have decided on a good and proper bat weight for themselves, then another interesting factor comes into play. The fact that since you may decide on a bat weighing 30 ounces, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the next time you decide to get a new bat, you simply pick a 30 ounce bat.

The weight of the bat is written on the knob and there’s a good explanation on not matching bats solely based on the weight. It’s called weight distribution. Even while two bats may be exactly the same weight, they will feel completely different when swinging. This is because one may have most of its weight distributed near the handle, making it feel lighter. The other may have most of its weight distribution on the barrel making its swing feel heavier.

Baseball bat manufacturers use different terms to describe this but most tend to refer using a couple of words.  A bat whose weight is distributed towards the end of the barrel is referred to as an end loaded bat while one closer to the handle is referred to as a balanced baseball bat.

Now you can understand why a balanced bat weighing 28 ounces does not swing the same way as an end loaded bat weighing the same 28 ounces.

When it comes to adding bat weights, two bats of the same size have different results as far as developing your swing goes. Doughnuts tend to emphasize on a balanced weight while sleeve weights add more weight to the end of the barrel placing more emphasis on an end loaded bat. Though it is a matter of opinion, the best weight distribution is towards the end of the barrel.
