Best Baseball Gloves for Youth Players 2019

Best Youth Baseball Gloves in 2019

Youth baseball started way back in Williamsport Pennsylvania. Did you know that when Little League Baseball started, there were only three teams that participated? If you think about it, that’s kinda sad because you just played one team or the other every single time. Nowadays little leagues have up to around ten teams, so there is a variety of people to play.

History of The Baseball Glove

I think one of the best inventions in baseball was the baseball glove. Did you know that there were no gloves in existence when major league baseball was created? The fielder would have to roll the ball to whoever is catching it, or the person who’s catching it has to have very soft hands. I think that is one of the reasons why they made gloves because their hands would hurt so much and get broken after every game.

Before baseball gloves, how they would field a baseball is they would cup their hands and push the ball down to the ground to stop it. Another way they would stop a grounder is by using their feet or getting their body in front of it. Sounds pretty extreme right? I agree, so let’s just say we are lucky that they made the baseball glove.

Nowadays everybody has their own premium glove that they got from the store. Back a couple of decades ago, players would leave their mitts on the field for the other team to use also. All the gloves are pretty much the same which is why everyone didn’t buy one if everybody else had one. Now there are different variations and different styles of baseball gloves.

Baseball Mitts Nowadays

One category that baseball gloves fall into is the position that they’re used for. There are infield gloves, outfield gloves, catchers mitts, first baseman’s mitts, and sometimes even pitchers mitts.

Some of the main differences between these gloves are the lengths. If you put an outfielder’s glove next to a catcher’s mitt, you would see that the outfielder’s glove is much longer and has far less padding while a catcher’s mitt has a lot of padding and different web design. The same thing also goes for an infielder’s glove who is the shortest on the field.

The main reasons that gloves vary so much is because of the advancements that we have made in the baseball industry, and how the baseball is usually filled in for each player. For example, a catcher most of the time gets fast pitches thrown at them, so they need a glove that has a lot of padding. And Outfitters glove is more extended than infield gloves because they need more range since the outfield is so big.

Youth Baseball Gloves

In Youth baseball, this all doesn’t apply as much since everybody is still learning the ropes. The catcher does not necessarily have to have a catcher’s glove since the ball is not coming in that fast. The outfielders did not necessarily need outfield gloves because they’re not running down and catching pop-ups at that age. This reason is why in Youth Baseball and Little League, everybody seems to have the same glove.

One good thing about this is that baseball gloves are much cheaper. The reason for why they are more affordable is that one they are smaller, and two they do not need to perform as well as higher level gloves do. The following is what I look for in finding the best gloves for youth baseball players.

What I Look For In a Baseball Glove

  • Value
  • Price
  • Design

What I mean by design in a youth baseball glove is the quality and shape of the glove. Basically and every youth baseball glove I look for that it has good length in it. This is because the children playing at this age still do not know the Mechanics for catching a baseball sometimes, and it always helps to have a little extra length on it. One thing to look out for is that it is not too long because this can weigh down the player and make them perform worse.

When I look at the price I just generally look that the glove is not that expensive. Especially since it will grow out of it soon, you do not need to look for a glove that is a lot of money. In Little League end in Youth Baseball ages, a cheaper glove can do just the same thing as more expensive baseball glove can. I never want anybody to spend more money than they have to, and this is a great area to save a little.

What I mean by value is a mixture of the design and price. Most times you are looking for a perfect medium between design and price. You do not want the design to be low and the cost of you though, nor do you want the cost to be high and designed to be high. You do not need a high-quality glove, but sometimes you don’t want a glove that can fall apart and potentially hurt the player. Value is just something to keep in the back of the mind while you’re shopping.

I know that when I played in Little League, I had the perfect Baseball mitt for Me. It was excellent quality because the netting was just a solid net, and the price was right too because it was not too much money. Another remarkable thing about my little league baseball glove is that it lasted me until I grew out of it. This means that I had it for many years before I needed to get a new one. These are the results that you are looking for also.

Top 5 Youth Baseball Gloves

Here is when I tell you the best baseball gloves for youth players and remember the way I picked these is by always thinking about what I look for in a baseball glove. If you didn’t read that part, you can scroll up a little bit and see what I value in a youth baseball glove.

#1) Louisville Slugger 11.5-Inch FG Genesis Baseball Infielders Glove

The Louisville Slugger FG Genesis baseball infielders glove is an awesome choice for any little leaguer. One thing that I like about this glove is that it is a Great Lengths for little league players. 11.5 inches is plenty room for baseball to fit in their tiny hands. Another awesome thing about this glove is that it has a mesh back. What this does is it makes the glove more lightweight, so that is more versatile for the youth players. The mesh back also does make the glove a little more flexible which is always helpful. Another cool thing about this is that it has a one year warranty which is always great.

Pros:

  • Flexible
  • Good length
  • Mesh back

Cons:

  • Mesh might get extra dirty

#2) Louisville Slugger Youth 2014 Omaha Select Infielders Baseball Gloves

This Louisville Slugger youth 2014 Omaha select baseball glove is my second awesome option for any youth baseball player. To start this glove has another good length of 11 inches, which is a little shorter than my first pick but it’s still relatively the same length. This glove has a little bit more of a premium feel to it because of the cowhide material. Even more so because it has oil-treated leather, which is an excellent quality in a glove. Similar to my first pick, this glove also has a 1-year warranty to the manufacturer.

Pros:

  • 1- year warranty
  • Premium material
  • Great protection

Cons:

  • Might be a little too short
  • Older version

#3) Professional Youth Baseball Gloves Durable PU Leather Outfielder’s Mitt Brown

The professional youth baseball glove by Typost is yet another strong pick. This is probably a glove that I would get in Little League because it is not necessarily a premium glove but still does the job right. With that in mind, this glove has a really nice price for a youth baseball glove. It comes with a comfortable cushion pad and faux fur which is nice for when it gets cold out. The material they use on this glove is very durable also and can hold for a couple of seasons. One last thing that I like about this glove is the basket weave webbings which is great for youth baseball players.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Comfortable
  • Basket-weave

Cons:

  • Not a well-known company
  • Faker materials

#4) Nike BF1726-BLACKRED

This Nike Blackred glove is another cool pic that I wanted to add. You can see by the design of this glove that it is different than all other than ones that I picked previously. I see this glove as something RoboCop would wear to his youth baseball game. With all jokes aside this is a cool looking glove and wish I had in Little League. I did say that I would rather have a cheap glove with okay features rather than an expensive glove with all the bells and whistles, but this is an exception. With Nike being the manufacturer this glove you already know that the quality is high. It has a basket style wedding which is great specifically for infielders in Youth Baseball but of course can be utilized by any player. I did not just pick this glove for the design even though that is one of the deciding factors of this pick.

Pros:

  • Best design
  • By Nike
  • High quality and durable

Cons:

  • Maybe a little too premium for youth players
  • The left-handed glove is more expensive than the right-handed glove

#5) Rawlings Players Series 9-inch Youth Baseball Glove (PL90MB)

Add disk left to the list because I don’t believe that I added enough for the t-ball players. I think that I did on a glove like this for my first glove when I play t-ball and instructional baseball. A cool feature of this glove is that it already comes with a baseball that fits in this glove so if you’re just starting out you did not need to worry about getting a whole bucket of baseballs when you already have one right there. No, this glove does not have all the bells and whistles that my previous pics might have, but it still does the job for t-ball players. Is nice and stiff so they don’t hurt their hands when they catch a baseball, but it’s still comfortable at the same time. Overall this is probably the glove that you’re looking for in t-ball.

Pros:

  • Great choice for t-ball
  • Comes with a ball
  • Stiff with good protection
  • Good price

Cons:

  • Not meant for above t-ball or instructional baseball

The Takeaway

To wrap up in Youth Baseball, you’re not necessarily looking for the bells and whistles since the price might be higher. Since youth baseball players are young and growing at a rapid rate, it is good to buy a less premium glove that is still durable and can get the job done.

I am not saying that any premium youth baseball glove is a bad idea or that you should not get one, I’m just saying I don’t prefer one. This is a great place to live to save some money, while still having a great time.
