Whether you’re just going to practice or setting up a league, a nice set of bases can come in handy when the league you’re playing with doesn’t provide them. After all, it’s called base-ball.

This is going to be my review on all of the best base sets that you can buy on Amazon. It’ll be separated into sections of pricing.

Usually, when people come up to me and ask me about what type of bases they should get, the answer is always “well… it depends.”

There are so many different factors that can affect which bases you should get for your kid, team, or yourself.

What Bases Are You Looking For?

Some questions you want to ask yourself when looking for baseball bases are who am I buying for, what is my price range, and what do I want to get out of them.

If you’re buying some throw down bases for the season for the team to practice with, then you should get exactly that.

Throwdown bases are some of the easiest and cheapest bases that you can get. They are pretty durable, they are easy to pack up and store and usually comes in all types of shapes and sizes.

If you are looking for a little more sophistication with your bases, you might want to get a higher quality throw down bases. These could be made out of vinyl, or plastic, but the difference between these and the throwdown bases is that these pop up out of the ground a bit making them a little better.

Sure, you can still kick these all over the place if you have players sliding into them all day, but they are still pretty useful for practice.

The last type of bases that I can think about is the real bases that have the stems that go into the ground. These are the ones that you’ll usually see in games since they don’t have to be moved around all the time, they’re easy to put in and take out, and they are the highest quality.

Now without further ado, let’s get into it and see what bases I like the most.

You know Chris likes to save money so we’re going to start off with our cheap price range.

Lower Price-Range Bases

Here I’m going to talk about the best bases for the least amount of bucks. These are for if you’re just practicing with some friends, playing Wiffle ball, or just need a quick set of bases to always have around.

I personally have owned a couple of sets of these bases over the years because they do come in handy.

You never know when a game of baseball might come up so you have to make sure you’re prepared.

1. Franklin Sports Throw Down Bases

These are the bases of all of our childhoods. If you play the game of baseball, softball, kickball, or wiffleball you have encountered these bases before. Nice and easy throw down bases made of rubber are awesome because they’re low priced, durable, and easy to store because they’re flat.

I like this set because it comes with a pitcher’s plate which is helpful at practice.

The green color also stands out in the dirt which can help the Umpire or your Friend Kyle’s Dad out with close calls at the plate.

2. Coast Athletic Throw Down Baseball Bases

This set is cool because it gives you two sets instead of one. I would leave one set of bases in my car or something and one set of bases with either another player or just in my house as a backup.

It always pays in advance to be prepared for an unexpected game of baseball.

This set is the same idea as the Franklin Sports set but this one is two sets in one.

The price difference between the two is very small. That is why I would consider this one as much as the Franklin set.

Again, these types of bases are not meant for playing real games since they can be moved around. The only game I can see played with these is Tee-Ball.

Throw these baseball bases in the backyard for a quick game, or keep them in your car for practice.

Champro Boxed Waffle Base

This is the last one for this category. We’ve all seen these before as well.

Baseball bases like these are the higher quality end of throw down bases. Since they are a little thicker with the waffle pattern in the back, they tend to stay in the ground a more.

If you are looking for a really good set of bases that you can practice with, then look no more.

I remember using these bases at practice when I was growing up and they’re still extremely relevant today.

They even come along with the same benefits as some of the other throw down bases. This is because these Champro Boxed Waffle Bases are still light and flat which makes them easy to use and easy to store.

Higher-End Bases

These aren’t going to be anything crazy but they’re still going to be much better and higher quality than the other bases I’ve mentioned in this article.

These types of bases can even be used for certain leagues and games since some of them can be fastened to the ground and not kicked off the field when someone slides into them. (We all know that’s annoying)

I suggest investing your money into these if you’re a coach looking for bases for a team or league, or you practice a lot and need something more than flimsy rubber bases.

MacGregor Heavy Duty Vinyl Bases

Whether your recreational league used them or your coach had a set of these, we’ve all seen these bases before.

I picked these over some of the other bases that I saw because they have the little anchors that you need to put through the sides so they stay in one place.

Some of the other models like this one didn’t have them so just know, Uncle Chris is looking out for you and your wallet.

Anyways these are good because they stick out of the ground so umpires, coaches, and players can see it more clearly across the field. Also like I said before they have the anchors so that you can put them in the ground in a more professional fashion.

It’s also a lot better for the players to be turning the corner on a real bag, instead of the flat ground. Having a cushion to push off of is much better for your ankles than pushing off of the ground.

I highly recommend these for league use and/or practice use.

Macgregor Major League Bases

We’ve made it to the real deal of this review: MLB bases.

I don’t think that these bases are the exact quality as the bases you see on TV. I can say they’re pretty darn close to them.

The metal anchors are there to make sure that this base isn’t moving for anyone. If you’re planning on doing one of those hanging slides into the bag, this is for you.

These are recommended for actual leagues since they don’t make them much better than this.

I actually don’t recommend these bags for most leagues and teams, and here’s why: I’ve seen some players really jam their angles and wrists when sliding into these bases.

You have to make sure you and your team are really careful with these. The reason is like I said before, these aren’t moving for anyone.

But if you’re looking for the best of the best, then this is the one for you.
