Hey, what’s up everyone. I just want to start out by saying that this is going to be one of my favorite reviews this year, and you’ll see why.
Marucci has this series of CAT bats which are really balanced, and explosive.
Now their newest flagship of the brand is out and ready for some action. You might recall my reviews on the past Marucci CAT models and you might remember that I love them all.
Let’s dive into this one and see what you need to know about this bat.
Design
Ok here are some design specs that I’d like to point out, then we’ll go over all of them. So if you don’t know what it means, you know Uncle Chris will give you the scoop.
- Micro-Perforated Soft-Touch Grip With Extra Tack
- AZ105 Alloy
- Ring-Free Barrel Construction
- Full Twelve Month Manufacturer’s Warranty
- Multi-Variable Wall Design
- One-Piece Alloy Construction
- 2nd Generation AV2 Anti-Vibration Knob
- Precision-Balanced Barrel
So there are some traditional things here that we have seen on past models of the Marucci CAT series, but let’s take a closer look at some of this.
AZ105 Alloy Material
Basically, all you need to know about the AZ105 Alloy is that it is the strongest aluminum that they have yet.
It is super powerful, and durable which means it should hold up over the years.
One thing that I want to point out is that it is not like this new super material that revolutionizes baseball. Just every year they can’t say that nothing really changed so the new features have to be a little better than last years.
I’m not knocking the new alloy, I’m actually pretty excited to see how it’ll hold up. I am just saying that you shouldn’t get your hopes up for something crazy new.
Full Year Manufacturer’s Warranty
So you probably know that bats break. I can’t tell you all of the horror stories that readers have told me about their bats snapping in half after a few swings or something.
It’s nothing big but a full year warranty is something that is great to have.
This way if your new bat has something wrong with it, you don’t have to pay a dime to get a new one.
2nd Generation AV2 Knob
Yes, you get a sting when you hit the ball wrong and depending on how fast that ball is thrown, it can suck.
Marruci has been developing their solution to bat vibration and it is the anti-vibration knob. So far I can tell you that the bat doesn’t sting that much but when it does the know handles it pretty well.
You can’t really get away from sting unless you’re perfect so it’s just nice to have this little feature that can make your at-bat more comfortable.
Multi-Variable Wall Design
I do not want to confuse you guys so I’ll just tell you what this means.
The Multi-Variable Wall Design basically is a design to aluminum bat forming to make the bat have no dead spots.
I myself have not seen any dead spots that are too bad on any of the new bats so again, nice to have.
Everything Else
The 2019 Marucci CAT 8 has the same features as the older versions with some upgraded features.
It is balanced, made for great bat control, and has some good pop at the same time. I really like these types of bats since they’re really all-around performers.
The color scheme of the bat is similar to past versions with the sleek white base and red accents. It looks great if you ask me so don’t worry about that part.
In other news, the bat grip is upgraded and feels pretty nice. Again you can always change the grip if you don’t like it.
Performance
Like you would expect from such a high-quality baseball bat, this thing rocks.
The handling is out of this world. What I mean by that is that the Marucci Cat 8 has great bat balance that will give you better accuracy at the plate.
Other than great bat handling, the Marucci Cat 8 gives better bat speed because of the lightweight materials and the balanced composite design.
I find it extremely satisfying to hit with this bat since it is so easy to get a ball on the sweet spot.
Grip-wise, the grip on this bat is great as well. It feels a little thicker which is actually better for the batter. It provides a tackier grip so you don’t have to worry about it flying out of your hands.
You always want to have a softer grip on the bat so that you can swing it harder.
The sound on the Marucci Cat 8 is good too. I don’t really like bats that have a louder ping since it’s just annoying so I think this one is just right.
Overall you can expect to see all of the great performances of past Marucci CAT baseball bats with minor enhancements across the board.
It cuts through the zone nice and quick, feels comfortable to swing, and is sure to last a while.
Is The Marucci CAT 8 For You?
This all depends on what type of hitter are you. Do you like a lighter, more-balanced bat? Or do you like a top-heavy bat that feels a little bulkier.
The 2019 Marucci CAT 8 is for the types of hitters that need a little more balance and speed. I definitely am one of these hitters.
It’s also for those players who are looking for a high-quality bat that will definitely last. I still have an old Marucci Cat 7 that’s been used for a while.
So the final verdict is yes, I really like this bat and would get it myself. If you don’t want the best quality and state of the art features than this might not be for you.
By no means is the Marucci CAT 8 a budget bat for everyone. It is only for players who are really serious about getting better and performing to the best of their ability.
