I have been eager to review the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 for quite some time now.
There are some things we have to talk about here gentlemen.
Lets just get to the details so you know some main features of this bat.
Details
One thing you should know about the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 is that it is a BBCOR bat.
That just means that it’s really meant for College and High School play. You won’t be able to use this in younger leagues.
With that being said this bat is a -3 length to weight ratio. That is just the heavier feel that High School and College players use most often.
One last thing is the 2-Piece composite design. The main material that the bat is made with is composite and there’s two pieces to this bat.
No you don’t have to put it together when you get it. It just means that it’s a little harder for Louisville Slugger to put the weight where they want it. Not a big deal really.
Just be careful with composite bats since they break a little easier, especially in the cold weather.
Ok now let’s get into the things that set the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 apart from other bats.
Features
One feature is the LS Pro comfort grip that they put on the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919. I admit it’s pretty nice and premium feeling. We see this grip on other LS bats this year and it’s been doing pretty good.
They have a new RTX end cap on the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919. This makes the bat feel a little longer and have a really nice barrel. It also makes the bat a little more durable.
Ok now for the forte of this bat. There is this new VCX technology on the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 that a lot of people like.
Basically the VCX tech separates the barrel and handle movement so they can do what they want.
The big thing about the VCX technology on the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 is the sting reduction.
I mean this bat has almost no sting most of the time. It feels so awesome hitting with this thing. It’s like smacking the ball with a pillow.
Speaking about smacking the ball with a pillow, lets talk about the downsides of this bat.
What I Think About the Louisville Slugger Prime 919
So here’s the part where I say the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 is a smack or whack.
It’s complicated…
Ok so there is no pop with this bat. I don’t know if it’s the VCX tech that they incorporated or what. It’s kind of a let down.
I mean the price is crazy for no pop, which is a huge part about choosing a baseball bat.
The thing is that you trade off pop for comfort in the 2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919. I mean this thing feels amazing when you hit the ball. That is one of the strongest features of the bat and I think that’s what they were going for.
The problem is that these kids want to smack the ball out the park most of the time, and with this bat it’s a little harder.
Am I saying that this bat is complete trash and a waste of time? No.
I am saying that this is an acquired taste, like being a catcher. Most people hate when they have to rotate into the catcher position during the game. It’s hot, you have to squat all day, the bat is swinging by your face. Still there is a group of people out there that can’t imagine life without being a catcher. If that makes sense.
So there will be some kids out there that love this bat because you can get some nice solid base hits without bad sting or just an unsatisfying feeling. It’s really comfy I’ll admit.
But you’re trading off pop in this situation and a lot of players don’t like that.
